While a storm is not expected to make landfall in Da Nang until Monday night, the city is being battered by lashing winds and rains, which has led to the cancelation of nearly 30 flights.

Vietnamese airlines also announced at midday on Monday the cancelation of dozens of flights due to the foul weather.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines alone called off 18 flights to and from Da Nang, whose departures were between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Monday.

These include seven Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City flights, coded VN116, VN117, VN120, VN121, VN122, VN124, and VN125; five Da Nang – Ha Noi services (VN168, VN172, VN169, VN171, and VN173), and two Da Nang – Hai Phong routes (VN1672 and VN1673).

The Da Nang – Hangzhou and Da Nang – Siem Riep flights (VN824, VN825, VN550, and VN551) were also canceled.

Vietnam Airlines had earlier scrapped four flights on the Buon Ma Thuot – Ha Noi service, and two flights on the Ho Chi Minh City – Chu Lai route.

On Monday morning, two Jetstar Pacific flights bound for Buon Ma Thuot from Ho Chi Minh City (BL570) and Hai Phong (BL539) had to land at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City due to bad weather.

The flights BL570 and BL539 then failed to return to Buon Ma Thuot as the weather conditions there remain unfavorable.

In the meantime, the Jetstar Pacific flight BL571 bound for Ho Chi Minh City from Buon Ma Thuot and the flight BL538 for Hai Phong were also canceled for the same reason.

Passengers of the flights BL570, BL571, and BL538 were arranged to take the Tuesday flights for free, according to Jetstar. Those who wish to return their tickets will get their refund in full.

Those taking the flight BL539 were given VND250,000 (US$11.16) each to cover transportation costs to go from Ho Chi Minh City to Buon Ma Thuot on their own.
