On Monday, the new Da Nang General Science Library officially opened its doors to the public at 36 Bach Dang street, a prime location in the heart of Da Nang alongside the Han River.

At a cost to the city’s budget of 50.88 billion VND, the rebuild of the library started in November 2014.  It focused on constructing a 2-storey library area and a 2-storey administration building covering 1,868m2 in total, upgrading the library’s 155m2 French Club, and building 3 parking areas covering 324m2 in total.

Also, 255 ornamental trees were planted, a lighting system was installed along internal pathways, and an automatic tree watering system was included in the library’s garden.

Most notably, the library’s reading rooms can now accommodate 2,500 readers in total, 2.5 times higher than its old ones.  These rooms all have a modern and synchronous equipment system with air-conditioning and ventilation.

There is also a special room featuring a variety of e-books and a 400m2 meeting hall designated for the organisation of local thematic activities and events.

The new library is open daily from 8:00am until 9:00pm, instead of the previous 8 hours per day.

The spacious and modern library now provides perfect reading spaces for local residents to meet their increasing demands for cultural values and it promotes a healthy reading habit in the city.
