The 9th session of the Vietnamese National Assembly's Committee for Culture, Education, Youths, Adolescents and Children took place in Da Nang on Tuesday to collect opinions on draft revisions to the Law on Child Protection, Care and Education.
The law was first implemented in 2004, and the proportion of Vietnamese children in special circumstances dropped from 5.8% in 2007 to 5.64% in 2014. In addition, the figure for such children receiving social assistance increased from 55% in 2005 to 82% in 2014.
Over the period, the number of street children and child victims of toxic chemicals and HIV/AIDS reduced significantly, and nationwide over 22,580 disadvantaged children are now living in centres for supporting children and social protection.
