On Tuesday morning, hundreds of passengers at Da Nang International Airport expressed their annoyance after VietJet Air flight VJ639 had been cancelled the previous evening, but they had yet to receive a satisfactory settlement from their service provider.  The flight was scheduled to take off at 10.25pm on 14 September from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City.

30-year-old Doan Cong Hoang from Quang Nam Province said that he and the other passengers on the cancelled flight had spent the night sleeping at the airport as they were promised that their flight would depart early the following day.

Mrs Chung Thi Bich Loan, 54, from Ho Chi Minh City affirmed that the low-cost carrier did not inform its passengers about the flight cancellation.

During an interview on Tuesday afternoon with a reporter from the Da Nang Newspaper, a representative from VietJet Air said that all flights to and from Da Nang, Hue and Chu Lai were cancelled on 14 September due to tropical storm Vam Co.

He also remarked that VietJet Air had added 6 flights on Tuesday in order to serve those passengers whose flights had been cancelled on Monday.  He said that VietJet Air therefore had had to change the flight schedules for Tuesday due to the unexpected addition of the 6 flights.  Free drinks and breakfasts had been offered to the passengers who were waiting for their flights at the airport.

He noted that VietJet Air took the initiative to implement many customer support plans, including either moving passengers to later flights, giving full ticket refunds, or changing tickets.  It also kept passengers well informed about their flights through media channels, cell phones, SMS messages and its operator 19001886.

He added that the aviation transport sector always faces the risk of flight delays and cancellations in bad weather conditions, which cause significant losses to the sector.  However, VietJet Air always gives top priority to ensuring the safety of its passengers.

He also suggested that passengers should update their flight schedules at the ‘Flight Information’ section on VietJet Air’s website at http://www.vietjetair.com.
