On Wednesday, a ceremony took place at Da Nang International Airport to repatriate the remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Viet Nam.

In attendance at the event were representatives from the Board of Directors of the Viet Nam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, and the US Defense Attaché Office, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and the US MIA Office, all in Ha Noi.

Two sets of remains, which were unearthed during the 120th joint field activities between Viet Nam and the US from July to September, were handed over to the US side.  The remains were jointly examined by Vietnamese and US forensic specialists who concluded that they might be associated with US servicemen missing in action during the Viet Nam war.  The specialists recommended that the remains should be sent to Hawaii, the USA, for further examination.

Seeking the remains of US servicemen missing during the war is a humanitarian activity between the Vietnamese and US governments.  This is the 136th hand-over of missing US servicemen’s remains since 1973.
