Viet Nam becomes official member of Int'l Hydrographic Organisation

The International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) held a ceremony to raise Viet Nam’s flag in Monaco on September 2, marking the country’s official admission to the IHO as the 84th member.

Participants at the event, which coincided with Viet Nam’s 70th National Day, included Rear Admiral Pham Xuan Diep – Deputy Commander and Chief of the Staff of the Viet Nam’s Navy Service, representatives of the Vietnamese ministries of National Defence and Foreign Affairs, IHO President Robert Ward, and leaders of Monaco’s hydrographic agency.

Viet Nam’s membership in the IHO marks a new stage in the development of the country’s navy force and the hydrographic sector.

The country pledges to fully adhere to the Convention on the IHO and exert every effort to actively and responsibly contribute to ensuring maritime security and safety in the region and the world.

It is also willing to cooperate with IHO member nations in the spirit of being a friend, trustful partner and responsible member of the international community.
