According to the latest statistics released by the Da Nang Preventive Medicine Centre and local hospitals, relatively few cases of dengue fever were recorded in Da Nang between January and August.  However, there was a significant increase in the number in September, many times higher than the total for the previous 8 months.

During September, 60 cases of dengue were recorded at the Son Tra District Medical Centre, 205 at the Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital, and 239 at the General Hospital.  Fortunately, no dengue-related deaths have been reported over the period.

According to the municipal Preventive Medicine Centre, a total of 27 hot spots for disease outbreaks have been identified in the city, and all of them have already been sprayed with anti-mosquito chemicals.  The highest numbers of dengue fever cases were recorded in the districts of Lien Chieu, Ngu Hanh Son and Cam Le.

The Deputy Director of Nha Trang Pasteur Institute, Mr Nguyen Thai Hung, recently warned that the total number of dengue fever cases in Da Nang is now ranked 7th out of 11 central cities and provinces.

He also remarked that the city is now seeing an increasing number of affected cases, and the figure is rising at an alarming rate.

In an effort to deal with the complicated development of the disease, the Director of the municipal Department of Health, Mrs Ngo Thi Kim Yen, has urged the city’s Preventive Medicine Centre to make every effort to control the outbreak.

Importance will be attached to spraying anti-mosquito chemicals in the homes and workplaces of dengue fever patients.  In addition, over 1,800 freelance medical staff will be sent into the local districts to help residents kill the mosquito larvae.
