Efforts to control dengue fever epidemic

During his recent meeting with representatives from Da Nang’s departments and agencies, the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Dang Viet Dung, urged local relevant agencies and hospitals to make every effort to stamp out the dengue fever epidemic in the city by mid-November.

Since the start of this year, a total of around 500 cases of dengue fever have been recorded in Da Nang, double the figure for the same period last year.  Between January and August, few cases of dengue fever were reported in the city.  However, there has been a dramatic increase in the number since the start of September.  Last week's total was 128 and it is expected that the number is likely to continue to increase unless effective and prompt measures are taken to control the outbreak.

Recently, small hot spots of disease outbreaks were sprayed with anti-mosquito chemicals.  In addition, the municipal Department of Health has urged local districts to follow its step-by-step guide for the spraying of chemicals to avoid inefficiency and waste.
