Uptrend in demand for skilled workers

DA NANG Today

Recently, jobs fairs in Da Nang have attracted a large number of businesses seeking new recruits, but only a few job seekers have been recruited.

As an example, a jobs fair held at the city’s Employment Service Centre on 1 October attracted 85 local businesses offering over 1,000 job opportunities.  However, only around 200 people were recruited.  One hundred and sixty of them were skilled workers, and the remainder were manual labourers.

Previously, on 20 September, 72 local businesses had offered over 1,600 job opportunities at a jobs fair at the city’s Employment Service Centre, 278 Au Co street.  They only recruited 108 skilled and 27 manual labourers.

The main reason for these disappointing results seems to be that the majority of local job seekers do not match the strict requirements of the recruiters.

The Head of the Employment and Labour Safety Office of the municipal Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Mr Nguyen Anh Anh, said that local businesses are in need of skilled and trained workers to expand their production and business activities in the future.  Over recent years, the city has seen a large number of Bachelor’s and Master's degree holders, but they have not met the recruitment requirements of local businesses.
