Seeking suitable landscape designs for river banks

The Da Nang Department of Construction recently suggested to the local authorities that an international-level contest should be organised to design the landscape along both banks of the Han River between the Thuan Phuoc and Do (Red) bridges.

The aim of the contest will be to find a range of new ideas for planning and designing the landscape alongside the river.

Some local architects have suggested that the total land area for green trees and public parks should be increased from 10% to between 15 and 20%.  A focus will be on building public parks and planting green trees on an area of 1.2 ha near the Euro Village project along the eastern side of the Han River or on the 7.2ha vacant piece of land near the Thuan Phuoc Bridge.

The former headquarters of the municipal People's Committee will be converted into a public venue for community activities and exhibitions.

A night town area will be created on the eastern side of the Han River in an attempt to attract more domestic and foreign visitors to the city.

The number of new high-rise buildings built alongside the river will be minimised to avoid creating the effect of 2 giant walls.
