Approval has been given by the Da Nang People's Committee for the issuing of international driving permits (IDPs) in the city.

In particular, foreigners who possess a permanent residence card for Viet Nam, along with a valid driving licence issued in Viet Nam, will be able to apply for the IDPs.

They are required to attend in person at the Da Nang Department of Transport in the Administrative Centre, Tran Phu, to collect an application form.  Their IDP will then be issued within 5 days of the application being received, and the fee is 135,000 VND.

The IDP will include the holder’s personal particulars and their authorised vehicle types, translated into English, French, Russian and Spanish.

In accordance with the 1968 Convention on Road Traffic and on Road Signs and Signals, known as the Vienna Convention, which went into effect in Viet Nam on August 20 this year, IDPs are recognised in the 85 countries that signed the convention and are valid for up to 3 years from the date of issue.

Holders of IDPs issued outside Viet Nam are advised to carry both the IDP and their national driving licence with them whilst they are driving in Viet Nam.
