On Tuesday, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Police, Col Le Quoc Dan, awarded 2 million VND from the city’s budget to Tran A Thao as a reward for his bravery in catching a pickpocket.

At 9.00am on 23 January, on his way from selling lottery tickets, 42-year-old Thao saw someone stealing something from the handbag of Ms Le Thi Ha from Hai Chau District’s Hoa Cuong Nam Ward whilst she was at a vegetable stall in the Hoa Cuong wholesale market.  He immediately ran after and caught the offender and retrieved 24 million VND in cash for the victim.  The pickpocket was then taken to the police in Hoa Cuong Nam Ward. 

The offender was 43-year-old Vo Thi Hoa from Hoa Vang District who is temporarily residing in Lien Chieu District’s Hoa Minh Ward.

The ward police have compiled a dossier with some seized exhibits and handed the offender over to the Hai Chau District police for further investigation.
