3 offenders arrested for stealing foreigner's backpack
On Tuesday, police officers in Da Nang’s Binh Hien Ward handed over to the Crime Investigation Division of the Hai Chau District Police Department 3 offenders accused of stealing property. The criminals are 39-year-old Tran Tinh Tuong, 48-year-old Nguyen Van Duc, and 46-year-old Nguyen Quang Chung, all from Da Nang.
At 5pm on 20 March, 62-year-old Lijing Ming from China was walking along Nguyen Van Linh with some friends looking for a hotel to stay at. Whilst Mr Ming was distracted, Tuong, who was selling coconuts at the intersection of Nguyen Van Linh and Trung Nu Vuong, stole his backpack which had been left on the pavement. It contained a tablet computer and over 1,200 Yuan in cash.
After receiving a report from Mr Ming, the ward’s police officers immediately carried out an investigation and found 3 suspects.
According to Tuong’s confession, he and his friends Duc and Chung exchanged the 1,200 Yuan for 4.5 million VND and went out for a drink, and they hid the tablet in Duc’s house. They admitted their guilt and handed over all the stolen property to the police who returned it to the victim.
In the afternoon of the same day, the Hai Chau District authorities visited and rewarded the Binh Hien Ward police officers for their great efforts in promptly investigating the case and returning the stolen property to its owner.
