On Tuesday, the Traffic Police Division of the Da Nang Police Department imposed administrative fines, worth over 3.4 million VND in total, on the 9 owners of high-powered motorcycles who had caused traffic chaos in the city on 17 January.

Eight of the violators were fined for not having vehicle registration papers, registration plates, and driving licences, and for parading in a line and thereby obstructing traffic movement.  The lowest and highest administrative fines were 400,000 VND and 840,000 VND respectively.

Meanwhile, the rider of motorcycle 59A3-014.90 has yet to present himself to local traffic police even though his bike was seized that day.  It was found without any relevant papers to prove its origin, and it had a fake registration plate.  The police have now asked the city authorities for permission to confiscate and sell it with the proceeds going to the city’s budget.

At 4.30pm on 17 January, a total of between 30 and 40 high-powered motorcycles paraded line abreast along streets in Hai Chau and Son Tra districts, causing traffic chaos.  After receiving reports from local residents, dozens of police officers arrived to halt the parade and they temporarily seized the 9 motorcycles for not having vehicle registration papers and registration plates, or their riders did not have driving licences.
