On Monday, the Da Nang Party Committee Secretary, Mr Nguyen Xuan Anh, visited the Ngu Hanh Son District Department of Police.  He presented 20 million VND from the city’s budget as bonuses to the police officers in the district who had successfully broken up the city’s largest ever drug smuggling ring.

Secretary Anh spoke highly of the involvement of the officers in investigating this serious case.  He also asked the district’s police officers to promptly complete their case files and bring the case to a public trial, to step up their fight against crimes in the community, and to ensure order and security in the city.

Last week, the officers detected a group of suspicious youngsters renting some houses in the city to process, store, and supply a stimulant called ‘American weed’.  The group’s leader is Ho Si Dien, and his assistants are Nguyen Van Hoang Duy and Nguyen Van Quang.  They are all 23 years old and come from Quang Nam Province’s Duy Xuyen District.

Initial investigations have shown that raw weed was transported to Da Nang from different localities by train.  The illegal material was then brought to the suspects’ houses on My An 23 and An Thuong 30 streets to undergo processing before being distributed and sold.

On 16 March, the district’s police stormed the houses and caught the offenders red-handed.  Evidence at the scene included 14kg of the finished product, American weed, 120kg of raw weed, 11 bottles of flavouring materials, 19 bottles of alcohol used in the processing, and many related items.  The total value of the items was estimated at 4.142 billion VND.

The case is still under investigation.
