Residential home for AO children opens
A residential home for paralysed Agent Orange (AO) children in the Shelter No 3 of Da Nang’s Care Centre for AO Victims and Disadvantaged Children, which is located in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Nhon Commune, officially opened on Wednesday. The newly-built home will be managed by the city’s Association of AO Victims.
The 240m2 home was built at a cost of 1.2 billion VND, and has been fully funded by Singaporean billionaire Harold Chan Soo York. The kind-hearted Singaporean will provide a monthly allowance of 3,000 USD to the Association to ensure the best care for the children there.

The new residential home is now providing care to 10 children, and it is expected to receive more AO-affected children in the near future. They will be provided with free of charge accommodation from one week to several years depending on their needs.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung highly appreciated Mr Harold for his active involvement in helping local disadvantaged children over recent years. He hoped that he would continue giving a helping hand to the city to bring benefits to even more unfortunate children in the years ahead.
