Youth Union members concerned about jobs for young people
As many as 1,000 members from Da Nang’s Youth Union (YU) organisations attended the annual March Dialogue Forum in the city on Wednesday.
Co-organised by the YU and the municipal Department of Internal Affairs, the event had ‘The Role and Responsibility of Young People in Preventing and Controlling Crime and Social Evils, as well as Building a Cultural and Civilised Urban Lifestyle’ as its theme. It was co-chaired by municipal People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh, and Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri.

Many of the participants raised concerns about the increasing number of local young people who spend too much time chatting at coffee shops. This is one of the causes of the rise in the number of social evil cases, including gambling and football betting.
Chairman Duc Tho stressed the need to enhance the high level of consensus between the local authorities and residents, and jointly deal with the problem instead of just imposing fines. He said, “The city’s leaders have introduced many measures to deal with this problem, including the opening of a book street and book coffee shops in the city”.
The city leader also underlined the importance for local relevant agencies to create an online crime reporting page, similar to the Facebook page of the city’s Urban Management Division at https://www.facebook.com/groups/dothidanang/?fref=ts.
Half of the 20 concerns raised by the participants were about job opportunities for young people and how to provide necessary life skills for them.
Secretary Anh asked the city’s Youth Union to implement a project on life skills education for young people. He also approved the establishment of a Pupil-Student Science Research Fund with the aim of encouraging local young people, especially students, to conduct effective scientific research for the city’s progress.
