The Drug-related Crime Investigation Division (PC47) of the municipal Department of Police recently broke up a drugs ring found to be transporting drugs illegally from northern localities to Da Nang.  The ring was led by 41-year-old Ngo Viet Huy from Thanh Khe District’s Tam Thuan Ward.

At 9.30am on 7 April, 2 automobiles, both owned by Huy, were stopped by police officers from PC47 and members from local relevant agencies when the vehicles were just south of the Hai Van Tunnel.  A total of 1,000 tablets of ecstasy, 800 grams of methamphetamine, and several packets of heroin were found in the vehicles.

Police officers then searched Huy's house and seized a shotgun and more methamphetamine.

Huy had previously been imprisoned for trafficking drugs illegally, but he was granted a special reprieve ahead of schedule and was released from prison in September last year.  After his release, Huy made contact with other drug-related criminals and drug addicts to establish a larger-scale ring for trafficking drugs illegally.

On Tuesday, the Da Nang Party Committee Secretary, Mr Nguyen Xuan Anh, presented 20 million VND from the city’s budget as bonuses to the police officers involved.  Secretary Anh praised PC47 for their great efforts in investigating this serious case.  He also asked the Department of Police to complete their case files and bring the case to a public trial as soon as possible.
