'Green, Clean and Beautiful Sundays' movement reviewed
Last year, over 45,400 people attended 40 meetings in response to Da Nang’s ‘Green, Clean and Beautiful Sundays’ movement. In addition, numerous clean-up activities were carried out along some major streets and in residential areas. Included were picking up litter and debris, dredging sewers, planting trees and flowers, and removing illegal advertisements.
This information was released by the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at a meeting on Thursday which reviewed the workings of the movement last year, and discussed the tasks set for 2016.
Speaking at the event, the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, praised relevant agencies for their great efforts in effectively implementing the movement. He stressed the need for them to raise local residents' awareness of becoming actively involving in environmental protection activities in the city.
Also at the event, 38 groups and 18 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee in recognition of their active involvement in the city’s movement. In addition, 12 lawnmowers were presented to another 12 outstanding groups.
