Help for Austrian citizen with problems
On Thursday, employees of Da Nang International Airport received a thank you diplomatic note sent from the Austrian Embassy in Viet Nam. In the note, the Austrian Ambassador to Viet Nam expressed sincere thanks to the municipal Department of Foreign Affairs, and Mr Ha Huu Hoang, Deputy Director of the airport's Aviation Security Centre, for helping an Austrian citizen with problem.
At around 2.30pm on 7 February, customs officers from the Aviation Security Centre received a report about a foreigner behaving abnormally in the international passenger terminal. One hour later, the man started having panic attacks and losing control.
The man was 23-year-old David from Austria. He had lost contact with his friends and wanted to go to the city’s railway station to find them. The officers reported the case to the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Austrian Embassy in Viet Nam, and then they helped David get to the station.
Then, at 7.15am on 10 February, the security staff on patrol at the airport found David there, hungry and cold. After contacting the embassy, David was allowed to talk over the phone to his mother and sister, and he was then taken to the Da Nang Psychiatric Hospital. One week later, David had recovered his health and was taken back to his country by relatives.
