Impressive figures for voluntary blood donation
Over recent years, Da Nang’s voluntary blood donation campaigns have attracted a large number of local blood donors from different age groups and all walks of life, including young people, workers, Buddhist followers, and military forces. By contrast, similar campaigns in other localities nationwide have only attracted young people.
Four in every 100 people in Da Nang become involved in this meaningful activity, a figure much higher than the average for the whole country.
There are now many voluntary blood donation groups in the city. There are 15 reserve blood donation teams with a total of 1,400 members, 8 other clubs with 153 members in total, and a special 25-member group who donate the rare Rh blood type.

Thanks to their donations, many life-threatening instances of blood shortage have been successfully dealt with, and the city has never faced a shortage of reserve blood for emergency cases in the summer or on public holidays including Tet.
Many local young people feel happy as they give their precious blood to save lives. 30-year-old Dang Thi Nhu Y is a typical example. She has donated blood around 30 times. She has always been willing to give blood if she received an urgent call from a local hospital, regardless of whether it was during the day or at night.
Most notably, many outstanding blood donors have in turn encouraged their family members to donate blood.
In particular, 10 members of the family of Mr Thy Ly Binh in Lien Chieu District’s Hoa Minh Ward have given blood a total of 110 times. Mr Truong Ngoc Dung in Hai Chau District’s Binh Thuan ward has donated blood 33 times, whilst his wife and 2 brothers have offered blood 62 times in total.
