Over 1,000 visitors stranded on Vietnamese island due to bad weather
More than a thousand tourists have been stranded on Cu Lao Cham Island off Quang Nam Province due to big waves and fierce winds.
Nguyen Van An, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tan Hiep Commune in Hoi An City, announced on Monday that visitors were expected to end their trip on the same day.
However, many ships carrying them were forced to postpone their operations due to strong winds and huge waves.
“We will continue to monitor the weather and help tourists get back to the mainland as soon as possible. Local authorities are urgently cooperating with travel agencies and residents to provide accommodation for the stranded passengers,” An said.
On February 15, officers at the Cua Dai border post also helped nearly 100 tourists come back to the mainland after being stuck on Cu Lao Cham for two days due to bad weather conditions.
Cu Lao Cham Island, 15km off Quang Nam’s coast, features beautiful seascapes and landscapes.
This island group has 3,000 inhabitants, most of whom make a living by fishing.
