Over 153,000 units of blood donated over 5 years
Between 2011 and 2015, more than 153,000 units of blood were collected from Da Nang’s residents, exceeding the period’s target by 26,000. The volume donated fully met the demand of the local hospitals for blood to use in emergencies and general treatment. Most notably, 3.67% of the city’s population donated blood last year.
The city now has 15 reserve blood donation teams with a total of 1,400 members, 8 other clubs with 153 members in total, and 2 blood donation family clubs.
The figures were released at a meeting on Thursday to review the performance of the voluntary blood donation campaigns in the city during the 2011 - 2015 period.
Speaking at the event, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung praised the generous blood donors for their noble gestures over the past 5 years. He remarked that, thanks to their donations, many life-threatening instances of blood shortage have been successfully dealt with. He also hoped that the city would see a significant increase in the number of blood donors in the future which will save many lives in very critical cases.
To mark the occasion, Certificates of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee were presented to 31 outstanding groups in recognition of their active involvement in encouraging residents to participate in the voluntary blood donation campaigns, as well as to 15 families and 66 individuals who gave blood more than 20 times in 2015.
