Ceremony marking 130th anniversary of International Labour Day
A ceremony was held in Da Nang last Friday to mark the 130th anniversary of International Labour Day (1 May).
Present at the event were municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri, local People’s Committee Vice Chairman Phung Tan Viet, and Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour Tran Van Ly.
In his opening speech, Mr Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Chairman of the Da Nang Labour Union, remarked “Over recent years, local workers have taken the initiative to access advanced science and technology. Many trade unions at municipal, district and ward levels have worked closely with the local authorities to help workers to overcome their difficulties and feel secure in their jobs”.

Deputy Secretary Tri praised local workers for their great dedication to the city’s progress. He also expressed his happiness with the increasing quantity and quality of workers, and asked trade unions at all levels to improve the spiritual and material lives of workers.
Also at the event, 8 outstanding individuals were awarded Certificates of Creative Labour from the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour in recognition of their active involvement in last year’s national patriotic emulation movement. 50 others received Certificates of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee for their outstanding achievements in the skilled labour emulation movement.
To mark the event, representatives from the municipal Labour Union presented charity houses to 31 local workers in difficult circumstances.
