Charity clubs with golden heart members

DA NANG Today
Published: May 20, 2016

Da Nang is now home to numerous charitable organisations which are actively involved in helping local disadvantaged people.  Amongst them is the ‘Not Nhac Yeu Thuong’ (Loving Music Notes) charity club.

Established on 1 January 2015, the club now has around 40 members in total, the majority of them women.  Its motto is ‘Sharing Your Love with Others Will Bring Happiness to Yourself’.

The club’s chairwoman is Ms Nguyen Thi Sinh.  After retiring as a drummer in the Quang Nam operetta troupe, she is now a guitar musician and runs her own business by offering music, sound and lighting services for special events.

In order to maintain her club’s operations, Ms Sinh and the club’s members often organise music and dance programmes at the Da Nang By Night Café, located at 627 Nguyen Tat Thanh, and tickets for every programme are priced at 100,000 VND per person.

In addition, the club’s members presented Tet gifts, worth 200,000 VND each, to 225 disabled lottery ticket sellers.  On 24 May, the club will hold a musical performance at the Da Nang By Night Café.  Profits collected from the event will go to buy gifts for 50 children with fatal diseases in the local Paediatric and Maternity Hospital’s Haematology Ward in recognition of the upcoming International Children's Day (1 June).

The Tu Tam charity club is another typical example.  The head of the club is government employee Nguyen Thi Dan.  Established in 2009, the club has become involved in giving free rice soup to poor patients in the Da Nang General Hospital and the Paediatric and Maternity Hospital. Thanks to its reputation, the club has received many great donations from generous domestic and foreign donors.

Over the past 7 years, the club has presented gifts to many disadvantaged people in Da Nang, Hue and Quang Nam.  Currently, it only provides free rice soup, milk and bread to poor patients in the Quang Nam General Hospital in Dai Loc District’s Ai Nghia Town every Sunday morning because there are many charity organisations operating in Da Nang.

The Thanh Tam charity club is another example.  Run by Ms Le Thi Mo from Cam Le District’s Hoa Tho Dong Ward, the club presented 400 Tet gifts, each valued at 500,000 VND, to people in the Dang Commune in Quang Nam Province’s Tay Giang District in 2014.  Between 2011 and 2015, Ms Mo raised a total of 1.177 billion VND in cash and materials from generous individuals to help the poor.
