Illegal exploitation of white sand being investigated
Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho recently urged local relevant agencies to investigate the Viet Nam Transcend Minerals Company Ltd in the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park on suspicion of illegally extracting and transporting white sand which did not belong to them.
It was reported that 14,494m2 of land in the Thanh Vinh Industrial Complex, owed by the Da Nang-Mien Trung Investment Company, was leased by the Viet Nam Transcend Minerals Company Ltd to store some sand it had bought from its mineral suppliers. However, on 6 May some employees of the Viet Nam Transcend Minerals Company Ltd were caught illegally exploiting the white sand which lies beneath the rented land without permission from its owners, the Da Nang-Mien Trung Investment Company. A total of 131.25m3 of white sand seems to have been illegally removed from the site, and an excavator and a dumper truck were temporarily seized.

Strict punishments will be imposed for illegally exploiting the white sand, and any organisations or individuals found to be involved in intentionally covering up the case will be dealt with.
