Locals' good deeds
In addition to Da Nang’s amazing landscapes with its beautiful mountains, river and beaches, the friendliness and hospitability of its residents has left a great impression on both domestic and foreign visitors. As well as helping tourists, local people are also willing to help others in need, with their compassion and kindness. Below are typical stories about the kindness of locals.
On 15 April, Ms Tran Thi Chi Phuong had a slight collision with a vehicle in front of the Hon ‘bun cha ca’ (fish cake noodle soup) restaurant in alley 113/3 Nguyen Chi Thanh. However, she did not immediately notice that she had dropped her handbag. The bag contained a cell phone, some of her important personal papers, and 1 million VND in cash.
The next day, Ms Phuong went back to the restaurant to look for her handbag. Fortunately, 60-year-old Tran Xuan Thanh, the restaurant’s owner, had picked it up as he was cleaning the street and he happily returned it to her.
A voluntary blood donation campaign was organised at the Da Nang College of Commerce on 30 April and 1 May, and it attracted a large number of generous blood donors.
Amongst them were twin brothers Tran Ngoc Kim Huy and Tran Ngoc Kim Hoang, 20, from Hai Chau District’s Binh Thuan Ward. They first donated blood on 11 October 2014, their 18th birthday, and they have given blood 4 times over the past 18 months. Their action has received strong admiration from their friends and schoolmates.
Kim Hoang said, “Our blood donation receives strong support from our parents. In addition, we have become actively involved in cleaning the environment and social work at our school”.
