Re-establishment of social work groups considered
On Wednesday, the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr Dang Viet Dung, chaired a meeting with the municipal Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs on establishing groups of social work collaborators and volunteers.
At the meeting, the Department’s leaders stressed the need to re-establish groups of social volunteers.
Many years ago, there were 46 social work groups, with over 900 volunteers, in local wards and communes. They were actively involved in detecting and preventing drug abuse and prostitution. They also helped drug addicts to stabilise their lives after rehabilitation and encouraged them to participate in healthy social activities in the areas where they lived. However, the groups were later dissolved due to a lack of funding for their operations.
At the meeting, the Department submitted a plan for re-establishing social work groups in wards and communes to the municipal People’s Committee for their consideration and approval. The groups would take responsibility for helping elderly, disabled, and HIV-infected people.
Vice Chairman Dung asked the Department to check carefully the need to establish the groups before submitting its plan to the People’s Committee for consideration.
