The Da Nang People's Committee Chairman, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, recently urged local relevant agencies to conduct surprise inspections of food traders and restaurants across the city in order to detect and handle any violations relating to food safety and hygiene.

The focus will be on taking food samples and testing for the presence of prohibited substances in food, including salbutamol, borax, and Vat Yellow (a cancer-causing substance used in paints and dyes).  Importance will also be attached to publicising all their test results as soon as possible.

In an attempt to reduce the number of traffic accidents in the city, Chairman Tho asked the Director of the municipal Department of Transport, Mr Le Van Trung, to check and deal with traffic problems at busy local roundabouts.

The city leader also stressed the need for Mr Trung to suggest stricter punishments for container truck drivers caught speeding or recklessly overtaking at local roundabouts, which together cause dangers for other road users.

With regard to ensuring security and social order during the forthcoming elections for the 14th National Assembly (NA) and all-level People's Councils (PCls) on 22 May, Mr Tho stressed the need for local relevant agencies to increase checks and their monitoring of voting venues and places displaying lists of voters.

In addition, focus will be on encouraging all over-18-year-old residents across the city to participate in the elections, including students, workers, and fishermen.

Chairman Tho also urged local relevant agencies to recheck the implementation of resolutions adopted at the municipal People's Council in the 8th tenure for the 2011 - 2016 term, and effectively implement the city’s main breakthroughs to promote local socio-economic growth.  In particular, the focus will be on boosting trade and tourism, attracting FDI inflows into the local hi-tech and IT sectors, building a synchronous infrastructure, promoting local cultural development and urban civilisation, developing Da Nang into an environmentally-friendly city, training high-quality human resources, and developing local government officials and employees who possess high levels of professional skills.

Importance will also be attached to ensuring the efficiency of tax collection, speeding up the implementation of local key construction works, and promoting the efficiency of the city's 'Year for Culture and Urban Civilisation' programme.

More surveillance cameras will be installed in local districts and wards, and there will be more checks and monitoring of local streets and public areas to deal with security and traffic violators.
