4,088 billion VND for tunnel under Han River
On Wednesday, Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho chaired a meeting to appraise the architectural designs and construction costs for a new tunnel under the Han River.
According to a spokesperson for the Bridge-Tunnel Engineering Consultant Company (BRITEC), the 1,315m-long, 6-lane tunnel will link the intersection of Dong Da and 3 February streets in Hai Chau District with Son Tra District’s Van Don street. The cost of the tunnel is expected to be 4,088 billion VND and, once construction work begins, it is scheduled to be completed in 3 years.

Mr Vu Quang Hung, Director of the municipal Department of Construction, asked BRITEC to ensure the quality of the project in order to guarantee the safety of traffic users once the tunnel is put into use.
Chairman Tho remarked that the new tunnel is the most complex traffic project the city has ever undertaken. He therefore urged local relevant agencies to select the most reputable contractors in order to ensure the quality of the project and shorten the construction time. The city leader noted that the local authorities would need to balance the city’s budget and are therefore likely to auction off some of their seaside land lots to cover the tunnel’s construction costs.
