Crime control and prevention shows positive signs
The Da Nang Police Department has reviewed its performance over the past 5 months, and identifed its tasks for the remaining months of this year.
Over the review period, the local police completed their investigations into 100% of the serious criminal cases reported in the city.
They detected and arrested 84 persons for illegally storing and trafficking drugs, and 1,234 for using illegal drugs.

Administrative penalties were also imposed for 409 social order, 80 economic and 92 environmental violations.
Most notably, there were no reports of mafia gangs or murders for property in the city. There was a sharp decrease in the number of cases of snatching personal property against the same period last year.
During the period, fines totalling nearly 15 billion VND were imposed on over 20,500 traffic violators. The local police temporarily detained 68 cars and 917 motorbikes whose owners had broken the traffic laws. More than 2,800 other violators had their driving licences revoked. In particular, the number of road traffic accidents, deaths and injuries reduced significantly compared with the same period last year.
Municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho urged the local police to continue their efforts to launch sweeping raids against all kinds of crime, including smuggling, hi-tech and drugs-related crimes. He also proposed that stricter penalties should be imposed for violations of the economic, environmental, and food safety and hygiene regulations. Also, more surveillance cameras should be installed in public areas in order to monitor and deal with security and traffic violations.
Also at the review meeting, 1 group and 6 individuals were presented with Certificates of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee for their active involvement in local crime control and prevention activities. Meanwhile, 1 group and 11 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the city’s Police Department.
In addition, 13 groups and 14 individuals were given Certificates of Merit from the city’s Police Department in recognition of their great efforts in ensuring security during the 22 May elections.
