A family’s mealtime is considered as the ‘glue’ that binds all the family members together, and a ‘fine tonic’ for nurturing a happy family.

Being aware of such significance, the majority of Da Nang residents always spend a lot of their time having meals with their family members.

26-year-old Nguyen Thi Hong Xuan from Thanh Khe District’s An Khe Ward is a typical example.  Although she works quite far from her home, the young lady returns home every day to have lunch with her parents and her other family members.

Xuan remarked that during lunch time her family members chat with each other whilst enjoying the delicious and tasty dishes.  This helps to release her tiredness after her morning’s hard work, and gives her more energy when she returns to her job in the afternoon.

30-year-old Nguyen Thanh Phong from Lien Chieu District’s Hoa Khanh Nam Ward is another example.  This young man is very busy because he runs his own business employing around 200 employees.  However, he always has meals twice a day with his wife at home.

Phong said, “Nobody can know my food tastes better than my wife.  Therefore, I prefer eating food prepared by her rather than having dishes at restaurants.  Family mealtimes always help me to forget any stresses at work”.

Nowadays, numerous local men are willing to share the kitchen work with their wives.

23-year-old Dang Thi Thu from Hai Chau District said, “I have a male colleague who is very good at sharing the housework with his wife.  Every afternoon, he picks up his two little children from their schools, feeds them, and gives them a bath before he goes to play football.  When his wife is busy, the kind man is willing to prepare meals for his family, and to do any of the household chores”.

It can be said that, sometimes, happiness is simply having a meal with family members to enjoy the delicious dishes prepared by their beloved ones.
