Gifts for children on International Children's Day

On Tuesday, the Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee, Mr Vo Cong Tri, and some representatives from local relevant agencies, visited and presented gifts to the SOS Children’s Village in Ngu Hanh Son District’s Khue My Ward for the occasion of International Children’s Day (1 June). 

On behalf of the city leaders, Deputy Secretary Tri extended his greetings to the children being cared for at the village.  He also praised the village’s staff members for their great efforts in caring for and educating the children there into becoming useful citizens.  He promised that the local authorities would give even more effective assistance to the village to make it a trusted venue for disadvantaged children.

Over the past 24 years, the village has been home to a total of 446 orphaned, abandoned, and very poor children from the city and from other localities in the central region and highlands.  Of these, 2 now possess Masters degrees, over 50 are studying at local universities and colleges, and 167 have found suitable jobs.  There are now 214 children living at the village.

On the same day, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung paid a visit to Shelter No 3 of the city’s Care Centre for Agent Orange (AO) Victims and Disadvantaged Children in Hoa Vang District.

The city leader presented gifts to 74 children at the shelter and wished them good health and a happy International Children’s Day.  He took the opportunity to encourage the shelter’s staff to continue their efforts in raising and caring for AO victims.

Yesterday, representatives from the Department of Education and Training gave 100 gifts totalling 55 million VND to AO-exposed children in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Lien and Hoa Bac communes.

The Association of Charities and Children's Rights Protection awarded gifts to 100 orphaned, autistic and very poor children who are being cared for at the Uoc Mo Xanh (Green Dream) integrated education centre in Thanh Khe District, the Charity Career Guidance Centre in Ngu Hanh Son District, the care centre for orphaned children in Son Tra District, and the Association’s charity shelter.  The gifts were valued at over 11 million VND in total and they were funded by Unilever Vietnam.
