Improvements needed to better prepare for natural disasters
The Da Nang People’s Committee have asked for greater efforts to be made to cope with any natural disasters over the 2016 - 2020 period, and for improvements to enhance search and rescue work at sea.
Numerous proactive measures will be taken to effectively deal with natural disasters to mitigate hazards, whilst essential equipment will be installed for local forces involved in any rescue work.
Importance will also be attached to raising public awareness about how to cope with disasters in a proactive and safe manner. Greater efforts will be made to introduce effective measures for local residents to adopt in various different types of disaster situations, including powerful storms, super typhoons, heavy flooding, prolonged drought, widespread landslides, and tsunamis.
In addition, heed will be paid to increasing the checks and monitoring of local infrastructure building work in order to minimise the effects of natural disasters. Included are road constructions and irrigation and drainage systems in residential and urban areas located near rivers, streams, and mountains.
The disaster preparedness and mitigation will be included in the city’s socio-economic development strategies. In addition, a focus will be on promoting the application of science and technology in disaster prevention and control activities.
