Taxi drivers' good deeds
26-year-old driver Nguyen Bao Quynh from Da Nang-based Tien Sa Taxis successfully helped his passenger deliver a baby whilst he was taking her to hospital.
At 7.55am on 20 June, Quynh picked up about-to-deliver Dang Thi Thanh Nga and a relative from the Da Nang Care Centre for Maternity and Paediatrics on 6 Phan Chau Trinh to take them to the city’s Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital.
Suddenly, Mrs Nga, aged 21 and from Quang Nam Province, cried out in pain as the taxi was on Nui Thanh and she realised that the baby was on its way. Quynh immediately stopped his cab and helped Nga successfully deliver her baby boy in the back seat of the car before continuing the journey to the hospital.

A hospital doctor later reported that both the mother and her newborn baby were in a stable condition.
A representative from Tien Sa Taxis rewarded driver Quynh with a 1 million VND bonus, and on Wednesday the company’s Deputy Director Nguyen Van Hien visited and presented 4 million VND in cash to Mrs Nga.
The day before this event, driver Mai Thanh Tam of Mai Linh Taxis had saved a drowning child at a seaside holiday resort near Hoi An.
While on his way to pick up passengers at the resort, Tam received a request for help from a woman whose child was lying motionless on the edge of a swimming pool. He immediately gave the 7-year-old boy first aid for which he had been trained by the city’s Red Cross Society. Thanks to his timely efforts, the victim coughed, choked and regained consciousness five minutes later.

His mother reported that her 2 children were wearing lifejackets whilst swimming in the pool, but unfortunately their lifejackets leaked and one of them began to drown.
On Wednesday, leaders of Mai Linh Taxis awarded a Certificate of Merit and a bonus to Tam in recognition of his bravery saving the life of the little boy.
