Fines to be imposed on unregistered electric motorbike owners
As from the start of this month, owners of unregistered electric motorbikes face fines ranging from 300,000 VND to 400,000 VND.
However, up to now Da Nang’s traffic police officers have only distributed publicity about this new regulation and reminded local electric motorbike drivers about their violation. The aim was to allow local electric motorbike users, who are mainly senior high school pupils, to concentrate on taking their recent national graduation exams.

The Head of the Hai Chau District Traffic Police Team, Lt Col Ho Van Minh, remarked “Since 1 July, administrative fines must be imposed on the owners of unregistered electric motorbikes. Top priority is being given to raising public awareness about the new regulation whilst imposing fines on violators”.
Major Pham Hong Hai from the Traffic Police Division of the municipal Police Department said, “As of 5 July, a total of 4,377 electric motorbike owners had registered their vehicles. However, a few electric motorbike owners have yet to apply for registration”.
Local traffic police officers will increase their patrols and checks on the city’s streets to deal with violators.
Stricter punishments will be imposed on anyone found not having vehicle registration plates, not wearing helmets, or violating traffic parking regulations. Fines will also be imposed on violators who travel in the wrong lanes, exceed the speed limits, or travel in line abreast and thereby obstruct other traffic.
The division and local relevant agencies will join in efforts to enhance their monitoring and checks over those who register for electric motorbikes in large quantities, and any individuals and organisations involved in manufacturing, trading and importing this type of vehicle illegally.
