Lien Chieu and Hoa Vang districts record remarkable achievements

Published: July 11, 2016

Since the start of this year, Da Nang’s Lien Chieu District has shifted its economic structure more towards industry and services, and the taxes collected in the district have far exceeded the year’s target.  Most notably in the district, the northwest approach road to the Hue T-junction overpass, the north-west traffic axis No 1, and the new northwest urban areas Nos 2 and 7, have all been completed.

Effective measures have also been taken to speed up administrative reforms, ensure security and political stability, protect the environment, help local social policy and poor families, and improve the living conditions of the local residents.  In particular, 100% of the district’s families have access to clean water supplies.

At a recent meeting with the district’s authorities, municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri suggested that top priority should be given to ensuring the district’s sustainable socio-economic development, maintaining effective urban management, enhancing Party building work, and building a strong political system.

Deputy Secretary Tri also stressed the need to increase the district’s tax collections in a stable manner, and promote the shift in its economic structure more towards industry and services in order to make more breakthroughs in its progress.

Importance should be attached to supporting the district’s businesses, attracting more public-private partnership projects, and improving the cultural lives of workers at the local industrial parks (IPs).  In addition, more effective ways should be made to build a cultural and civilised urban lifestyle, ensure environmental sanitation, and deal with pavement encroachment for the purpose of trade.  In particular, businesses that repeatedly cause environmental pollutions will have their investment licences revoked.

The city leader also urged the district authorities to enhance the performance of the Party organisations of non-State-owned businesses, increase the monitoring of local Party members, and effectively deal with recommendations and complaints made by local residents.

Like Lien Chieu District, Hoa Vang District has also seen remarkable achievements in its progress over the first half of this year.

Between January and June, the district’s total production value climbed by 14% against the same period last year to hit 4,089 billion VND, fulfilling 66% of the year’s target.  The total taxes collected in the district reached 79 billion VND, up 44.5% against the same period last year.  Most notably, the number of local households living below or near the city’s poverty threshold decreased considerably.  Employment was also created for 1,105 local job seekers, and vocational training courses were offered to 100 local residents.

Municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho recently remarked that the city plans to divide Hoa Vang District into 2 separate districts in the future, with a focus on boosting urbanisation.  The city leader, therefore, stressed the need for the district authorities to invite experienced urban experts, attract more investment into new urban areas and new IPs, as well as promote the development of eco-tourism services.

Special heed will be paid to bolstering urban agriculture development to ensure high quality agricultural products, effectively managing local natural resources and protecting the environment.  Greater efforts will be made to speed up the site clearance for local projects and ensure sustainable poverty reduction.
