Criticism of local environmental monitoring agencies
During his meeting on Thursday with representatives from Da Nang’s departments and agencies, municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho criticised leaders of the environmental police and the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment for their lack of a sense of responsibility after the recent discovery of alleged toxic waste dumped by the Anh Duong Environmental Service Company.

The city leader urged local environmental police to conduct an investigation into the company to impose administrative fines and revoke its business licence. The Department was also asked to increase its checks and monitoring of environmental protection work at all local businesses.
Also at the meeting, the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment reported to Chairman Tho their dealings with serious environment problems at some pollution hot spots in the city.
In particular, the severe environmental pollution at the Tho Quang fishing wharf has been essentially dealt with over the past 2 months, and the construction of drainage systems surrounding the wharf will be completed in October. The intention is to collect waste water from the wharf and divert it to the Son Tra waste water treatment plant. In addition, over the past few months, the strong odour at the Lien Chieu waste water treatment plant has been solved.
