Downpours are expected to bring floods to provinces and cities in both northern and southern regions this week, while the middle of the country, including Da Nang, can anticipate hot days and wet nights at the same time.

The northern area is forecast to experience poor weather over the first few days of the week due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone crossing the region, and a growing trough in the Gulf of Tonkin, according to Le Thi Xuan Lan, a Ho Chi Minh City-based meteorologist.

Specifically, torrential rain is set to lash the area by Thursday, with flash floods and landslides anticipated in mountainous areas, while the deltas and valleys can expect to be inundated, she forecast.

Southwesterly winds, gaining strength thanks to northern weather disturbances, are predicted to dampen the southern and Central Highlands regions during the evening with rainfall and strong squalls over the period.

Severe floods are also forecast in the south due to high tides, the weather pundit said.

Provinces in the central region should anticipate hot days with temperatures at 35-37 degrees Celsius, but rainy squalls are also predicted to hit some areas, Lan said.

Rainy spells across the whole country are expected to weaken by the weekend, and another heat wave is forecast to bake the central region, she concluded.
