The branch’s Executive Board consists of 13 members. The former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Military Zone 5 High Command of the Viet Nam People’s Army, Major General Nguyen Viet Hoang, is Head of the branch.
The branch is responsible for publicising policies about national action programmes for dealing with unexploded ordnances (UXOs) left over from the war, helping local victims of bombs and mines, and relocating local families from UXO-contaminated areas to safe locations.
Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung highly praised the establishment of a branch of the VBMASA in the city. He hoped that it would act as a bridge in appealing for more financial aid from home and abroad to help local UXO victims overcome the difficulties in their lives.
To mark the event, representatives from the VBMASA presented 12 million VND to each of 20 selected local victims in order to help them repair their homes, fit prosthetic limbs, and create a means of making a living.
In a similar vein, domestic organisations and individuals donated a total of 308 million VND to the city’s branch. The money will be used to organise local action programmes for remedying the aftermaths of UXOs.
