Between January and August, the total value of retail sales of goods and services from local commercial activities increased by 8.3 % compared with the same period last year to 47,950 billion VND.   The total export turnover of goods went up by 8.6% to hit an estimated 787 million USD.

During the period, the total number of tourist arrivals to the city reached 3.8 million, an increase of 14.1%.  The value of local industrial production climbed by 12.7%, whilst the value of agricultural production increased by 4.3%.

As of 15 September, the total of State tax collections in the city had reached over 13,000 billion VND, fulfilling 87.3% of the year’s target.

Deputy Secretary Tri highlighted the recent flooding problems along some of the major local streets despite the rain not being too heavy.  This had significantly affected the daily lives of local people, and the business and their production activities in the city.  He also pointed out some shortcomings in the handling of some hotspots of environmental pollution, and the construction of a road tunnel to take Tran Phu under the busy junction with Le Duan.

He asked local relevant agencies to take more effective measures to exceed the targets set for the city this year, and to develop plans for the city’s socio-economic development and State budget estimates in 2017.

Greater efforts should be made to effectively deal with environmental pollution problems at the Phu Loc River, the Tho Quang fishing wharf, and the wastewater treatment systems in industrial parks.

Good preparations should be made for the construction of the road tunnel at the junction of Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Tri Phuong and Le Do, as well as for the activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the city’s recognition as a centrally-governed city on 1 January 2017.

He finally suggested that more should be done to honour the special efforts and dedication of the late PaC Secretary and People’s Council Chairman Nguyen Ba Thanh who died in February 2015.
