Over recent days, Da Nang’s relevant agencies have made every effort to stop the harassment of tourists and deal with illegal street vendors who insist on begging passers-by to buy their goods.  The intention is to leave a good impression of a civilised city on both the participating contestants and invited guests during the forthcoming 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG 5).

On 16 September, urban rule inspection teams in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts dealt with street vendors operating in their areas, especially along Vo Nguyen Giap and Nguyen Van Thoai streets.

Mr Huynh Van Bay, Head of the Son Tra District Urban Rule Inspection Team, remarked “In attempting to ensure the success of ABG 5 and the ongoing action month for the ‘Year for Culture and Urban Civilisation’ programme, the focus is on increasing checks and tightening the monitoring of potential violations near the ABG5 venues and along some of the major coastal streets such as Ho Nghinh, Ha Bong, and Duong Dinh Nghe”.

Last Saturday, the Interdisciplinary Inspection Team No 1, the Urban Rule Inspection Team, and some police officers from Ngu Hanh Son District paid an inspection visit to the Marble Mountains Tourist Area.

During the inspection, they detected and dealt with any wandering vendors operating near the site.  In addition, any signboards of business establishments which were encroaching onto street pavements were temporarily seized.

Also, souvenir shops at the attraction were urged to ensure the proper use of their registered business locations in order to improve the landscape around the venue.  In addition, all of them were required to display the prices of their products, and to sell them at the prices displayed.

Two inspection stations have already been established at the beginning and end of Huyen Tran Cong Chua street in Ngu Hanh Son District.  Thanks to this, the harassment of tourists has completely ceased.

Mr Huynh Van Than, Deputy Head of the district’s Urban Rule Inspection Team, remarked that strictly penalties will be imposed on anyone found to be repeating illegal acts after being fined or warned for first violations.

Mr Nguyen Hoa, Vice Chairman of the Ngu Hanh Son District People’s Committee said “Over the past 2 months, the district’s relevant agencies have increased their patrols and checks along local streets in order to prevent restaurants from encroaching onto local pavements, and to deal with any illegal street vendors there”.

Vice Chairman Hoa remarked that strict penalties will be imposed on wandering vendors, and their goods will be seized by the local inspection teams.
