Food hygiene violations at mooncake-making establishments

On Monday, a group from the Da Nang Market Management Bureau made inspection visits to some mooncake-making establishments in Hai Chau District.  The intention was to check the quality of their mooncakes in the buildup to the Mid-autumn Festival, which this year falls on 15 September.

During the inspections, these establishments showed their businesses certifications, along with invoices relating to their products.  However, one establishment was found to not meet the city’s food safety and hygiene standards for making mooncakes.  In particular, wheat flour, which is the main ingredient of the cakes, was put into buckets on the floor without any covers.  In addition, the establishment’s production area was too small, and it featured many personal items including shirts and trousers.

From now until 15 September, the local inspection teams will increase their checks and tighten the monitoring of food safety and hygiene at local mooncake-making establishments.  The intention is to promptly detect and deal with any businesses violating the city’s regulations on food safety and hygiene.

The focus will be on warning local mooncake-making establishments not to use ingredients without a clear source of origin, nor to sell out-of-date products to local customers.
