Keeping beaches clean for ABG5
Over recent days, workers from the Da Nang Urban Environment Company have been busy cleaning up the local beaches as part of the preparations for the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG5) which begin on Saturday.

In addition, the company’s environmental enterprises in Hai Chau 1 and 2, Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son are responsible for ensuring environmental hygiene along their major local streets. Local sanitation workers will be deployed at the 4 major competition venues between 4.00am and 11.00pm each day during the event for cleaning purposes. Sixty 240-litre waste bins have been installed at these venues.
The company’s Deputy Director, Mr Tran Van Tien, said that more than 100 sanitation workers and 3 trucks will be allocated to the venues to collect rubbish in the event of heavy downpours.
Mr Le Van Hoang, who lives near My Khe beach, reports that wastewater from local drains is being discharged directly into the sea due to the recent heavy rains. This has caused bad smells and the beach’s shoreline is littered with garbage.
In attempting to deal with the problem, the city's Water Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company has installed some high-capacity water pumps at 4 seaside sluice gates near the competition venues. The company has also sprayed deodorant in some areas to reduce the unpleasant smell.
