Earlier, the contest’s organisers had selected the 13 most outstanding entries and required the oral presentations from their creators.  They are the Viet Nam Transport Investment and Construction Consultant Joint Stock Company; the Transport Engineering Design Inc. (TEDI); a joint venture between the Bridge and Tunnel Engineering Consultant Joint Stock Company and Oriental Consultants Global Co Ltd, a joint venture between Japan’s Chodai Co Ltd and the Transport Company Ltd under the Viet Nam University of Transport and Communications; a joint venture between the VTCO Investment Company Limited and Spain’s Pedelta SL; and a joint venture between the Ha Noi Transport Engineering Design Corporation, the OTB Engineering company in the UK, and the BK Engineering and Construction Company.

Eleven of the 13 entries feature architectural designs for a new bridge over the river, whilst the remaining 2 involved the construction of a road tunnel under the river.

The Director of the municipal Department of Transport cum Head of the contest’s Organising Board, Mr Le Van Trung, spoke highly of the creativeness of the designs submitted.

He remarked that most of the entries meet the strict design requirements of the contest’s organisers.  In detail, the designs are required to match the city’s master urban plan towards 2030, with a vision to 2050, as well as to ensure a harmonious combination with the overall local traffic system and connect with nearby technical infrastructure facilities.

In addition, the entries must be unique, aesthetically pleasing, and highly-feasible.  They also must minimise any visual impact from the beaches and the Son Tra Peninsula, and ensure the convenient organisation of cultural festivals alongside the Han River to promote the local tourism sector.

As for the technical aspects, the works must minimise the impact on the flow of the river and the movement of all kinds of vessels.  Special attention has also to be paid to deploying the construction work in an economical and effective manner.

The contest’s judges will choose the best entry and then submit it to the local authorities for their consideration and approval.

The first prize winner will receive 100 million VND, the second prize is 70 million VND, and the third is 50 million VND.
