Chairman Tho noted that, in recent years, a large volume of wastewater from the existing drainage systems along local coastal streets has been discharged into the sea during periods of heavy rain, thereby adversely affecting the nearby beaches.

Representatives from the Management Board of the Da Nang Priority Infrastructure Investment Projects proposed that the city authorities should choose the plan developed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the construction of the drainage system.  They also totally agreed about the positioning of drainage culverts and their sizes.  Drainage culverts will be installed underground along the coastal routes of Hoang Sa and Vo Nguyen Giap, and roads connecting with the Son Tra Wastewater Treatment Plant.

A method known as pipe ramming (pipe jacking) will be used, which is a trenchless method for the installation of steel pipes and casings.  Under the plan, the total cost of the drainage system is estimated to reach over 714 billion VND.

Chairman Tho asked local relevant agencies to work closely with JICA to implement the project in order to ensure the image of clean beaches in the eyes of local residents and tourists.
