Over recent years, the municipal Department of Information and Communications has made great efforts to upgrade the local information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure.  The intention is to ensure the smooth operation of the city’s e-government system, and expand this model to 18 cities and provinces nationwide.

Between January and June, the city’s Public Service Information Centre received and handled over 2,000 opinions from local residents, businesses and organisations.

Over the 6-month period, the Software Park No 1 under the management of the Department operated effectively.  It earned more than 18 billion VND in revenue and contributed over 7.5 billion VND to the city’s budget.

Regarding the post and telecommunications sector, the city’s Television Broadcasting Digitisation project was implemented successfully, and a total of over 45km of low voltage power cables along 144 local streets were moved underground.

During the first half of the year, the media and publishing sectors in the city made numerous breakthrough improvements.  In addition, the plan for the ‘Da Nang Book Street’ project was completed.

Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung urged the Department of Information and Communications to appeal for more Public-Private Partnership (PPP) investments into the Software Park No 2.

The city leader stressed the need for the Department to create a healthy and competitive environment for local businesses, and to impose stricter penalties for any violations.  The emphasis should be on making detailed plans for IT infrastructure development in order to appeal for more domestic and FDI investment into the local public telecommunications services.

Also at the event, the awards ceremony for the Da Nang Computerised Fireworks Displays Competition 2016 was held.

The contest, which was officially launched in January, aimed to introduce some new ideas for the Da Nang International Fireworks Competition 2017, which will take place from 14 to 29 April.  The organisers received a total of 16 entries from 15 individuals and groups nationwide.

There were no first or second prize winners at the competition.  However, the third prize was given to student Tran Dong from Duy Tan University for his work ‘Thanh Pho Song Han’ (The City of the Han River).   In addition, a commendation prize went to a group from the Da Nang University of Science and Technology for their entry ‘Ca Chep Hoa Rong’ (Carp Turns into a Dragon).
