Flash floods ripped through these areas after torrential rains started on 13 October and continued throughout the weekend, with Quang Binh Province hardest hit by about 747mm of rain in 24 hours.
According to initial statistics, severe floods in the region have left at least 21 people dead, 8 missing, and many injured. In addition, more than 120,000 houses and many infrastructure facilities have been inundated and damaged, causing numerous difficulties for local residents, particularly those in Quang Binh and Ha Tinh provinces.
Residents in the flood-hit localities are now rushing against time to try to deal with the aftermath of the devastating floods. They are desperately in need of financial assistance to overcome their current difficulties and continue with their lives, and especially to allow pupils to return to their schools soon.
In his letter of appeal, Chairman of the Fund Phan Dien remarked that giving donations for flood victims demonstrates Viet Nam’s time-honoured fine tradition of ‘mutual affection, mutual love’. As a Vietnamese proverb says, “The good leaves protect the worn-out leaves”. He pledged that any money donated would go directly and quickly to the flood victims.
Donations can be sent to the headquarters of the Central Region Natural Disaster Relief Fund, 25 Nguyen Du, Hai Chau District, Da Nang (Phone: 08051390 - 08051546 - 08051510 or directly into its bank account which is 5601.0000.123389 at the Hai Van Branch of the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV), 339 Nguyen Luong Bang, Lien Chieu District.
