At the event, municipal PC Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh, PC Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri, and other staff members at the Office donated at least one-day’s salary to support the victims.

On the same day, a group of representatives from the city authorities, led by municipal People’s Council Vice Chairman Nguyen Nho Trung, visited the flood-hit provinces of Ha Tinh and Nghe An.

Vice Chairman Trung presented 500 million VND, raised by Da Nang’s authorities and residents, to each of the 2 localities.

Flash floods ripped through these areas after torrential rains started on 12 October and continued throughout that weekend.

In Ha Tinh Province, it was reported that severe floods had left 8 people dead and many injured.  In addition, more than 31,000 houses were submerged in floodwaters of up to 3m due to the prolonged torrential rain.  The total cost of damage in this locality is estimated to reach about 2,000 billion VND.

In Nghe An Province, the devastating floods claimed the lives of 5 people, knocked down 13 houses, and inundated over 8,200 others.  The total cost of damage in this locality is estimated to be over 500 billion VND.

During his meetings with representatives from the 2 provincial authorities, Vice Chairman Trung expressed his sympathy to these localities about the huge damage caused by the recent floods.  He also hoped that their residents would overcome their current difficulties and continue with their lives.

In reply, the leaders of the 2 provinces thanked the Da Nang authorities and people for their kind support, and pledged that they would do their utmost to try to deal with the aftermath of the devastating floods.

Previously, 1 billion VND collected from Da Nang’s authorities and residents had been given to hardest-hit Quang Binh Province, whilst 500 million VND had gone to Quang Tri Province.

In a similar vein, between 18 and 20 October, representatives from the Central Region Natural Disaster Relief Fund and the municipal Youth Union organisation of the city’s government agencies visited the 4 flood-hit localities.  They presented 1,500 gifts to local flood-affected families, valued at 200,000 VND each, which consisted of 10kg of rice and one carton of instant noodles.

In particular, the Fund is now continuing an appeal for donations from organisations and individuals from both home and abroad to share the pain of the flood victims in the central region and those affected by recent severe drought and salinisation in the southwest region.

Donations can be made by simply texting HM to 1405, with each text donating 15,000 VND.  Also, donations can be sent to the headquarters of the Central Region Natural Disaster Relief Fund, 25 Nguyen Du, Hai Chau District, Da Nang (Phone: 08051390 - 08051546 – 08051510) or directly into its bank account which is 5601.0000.123389 at the Hai Van Branch of the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV), 339 Nguyen Luong Bang, Lien Chieu District.
