Currently, there are over 120,000 employees working for Da Nang’s government agencies, departments and businesses.  About 50,000 of them work in local industrial parks (IP) and export processing zones, 40% of whom have come from other localities.  Therefore, they have to stay in rented houses in the city and do not have much free time to enjoy entertainment activities.

In attempting to deal with these problems, the city authorities have made efforts to enhance the spiritual life of these employees, especially the manual workers at the local IPs and export processing zones.

Mr Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Chairman of the city’s Labour Union, said “The municipal Trade Union plans to build at least 2 kindergartens, 2 minimarkets, and a cultural and sports centre for local IP workers by late 2020.  In addition, the city authorities have approved the conversion of part of a student dormitory on the western side of the city into accommodation for local workers”.

Chairman Triet added that the 1st monthly fair for workers is scheduled to open next month, and it is expected to feature around 30 stalls with numerous attractive promotion programmes.  Nearly 20 community activities will be held during the fair.  Included will be free-of-charge haircut and make up training, cooking lessons, reproductive healthcare consultancy services, free medical examinations and treatment, a karaoke competition, mass wedding ceremonies, and worker rendezvous programmes.

Mr Doan Duc Phuoc, Deputy Director of the local Labour Culture House, remarked that his unit has recently worked closely with trade unions in the IPs and export processing zones to widely publicise the upcoming fair amongst local employees.

The Chairwoman of the Trade Union of the company Valley View Viet Nam, Ms Duong Ngoc Lan, said that the upcoming event is expected to bring great benefits for local workers.
